You would think a forehead full of bumps and bruises would convince Evan that there's certain places in the house he just shouldn't go now that he can crawl.
Not all of the no-no spots risk a new bump to the noggin. However, those that aren't dangerous, are usually very messy.
Like the dogs' water and food bowls.
It seems like just yesterday (or was it two years ago) that I started playing this game - the chase after a babe and pick up the bowls before water and food gets every where game. The dogs are now back to eating at night and going outside to take a sip of water.
The water bowl's safe outside - for now. In addition to the bowls, the bottom step, the open dishwasher door and his brother's room, Evan's also discovered the dog door.
He hasn't yet made his way out. However, he has gotten brave enough to lean in and flap the door a few times.
I suspect we will be putting the gate up on the back porch stairs very shortly.
Of all the places Evan travels to multiple times a day nothing offers more pleasure on his part - and more fear on my part - than the fireplace hearth. There's something about those hard bricks and sharp corners that bring him an enormous amount of pleasure.
He loves to crawl just a little too close and pull himself up to stand. Pillows, I thought, would keep that big forehead that I love to kiss so much safe.
Wrong.
Somehow, our babe figured out a way to push a pillow aside, pull himself up and make his way on top of the hearth. All in just a few moments time.
Oh, you can imagine his delight when I found him in this spot.
He crawled back and forth. Stuck his toes inside the fireplace. Banged the screen.
Then got very, very angry when he couldn't figure out how to get down.
